NATIONAL HERITAGE WEEK 2026
Join us as we celebrate National Heritage Week 2026 from the 15th to the 23rd of August, inclusive. Kicking off the week on Saturday 15th August is Storylines 2026, a free evening of landscape-led storytelling with traditional Irish musician and storyteller Conni Dawson (The Street Harpist). THE REDWOOD LECTURES - POSTPONED
Redwood Castle is the historic seat of Brehon law, the ancient Irish legal system that governed the island for over a thousand years. Now, after a silence of 375 years, the tradition returns. A new lecture series will bring preeminent scholars back to Redwood Castle to explore the rich legacy of Brehon law once again.
Featured speakers will include:
Fangzhe Qiu Associate Professor at the School of Irish, Celtic Studies and Folklore, University College Dublin. Principal investigator of the FLEXI project, which studies late medieval Irish legal florilegia. He will present an introduction to early Irish law and an analysis of the manuscript Críth Gablach as a representative law text.
Andrew Ó Donnghaile Postdoctoral researcher on the FLEXI project at UCD, specialising in early Irish law, medieval political and military history, and medieval Irish horsemanship. He will present on socio-politics and the interactions between legal systems in late 16th-century Ireland.
Charlene Eska 2022 Guggenheim Fellow and Professor of Linguistics at Virginia Tech, specialising in early Irish law and manuscript recovery. She will examine the status of women in early Irish law and analyse texts focused on lost and stolen property.
Héléna D.M. Lagréou Historian of medieval law and justice and postdoctoral researcher on the FLEXI project at UCD, with expertise in the cultural and historical forces that shaped the ius commune. She will present a comparative analysis of medieval European legal systems and practice.

HERITAGE WEEK 2022
Included a visit from Imogen Stuart to Lorrha and a Biodiversity Day with Anne Marie Mahon, organised in coordination with Redwood school. The children helped to prepare an area for the creation of a wild flower garden, and learned to identify trees and local flora.
